Update from Rwanda Nov 2011

Lots has been happening in Rwanda with mission team members that have been coming and going.

Our original team that was in Ethiopia travelled over to Kigali, Rwanda to participate in a variety of projects. Here is a summary of some of the things that they participated in:

  • A roof extension building project at Tubahumarize – a women’s cooperative reaching out to women that had been impacted and severely traumatized by the genocide of 1994.
  • A painting project to refurbish the facility of Tubahumarize
  • Outreach to the women of the Treasure Centre – a small local church that has an impact on the restoration of the lives of prostitutes. The team built relationships and delivered much needed basic supplies.
  • Outreach to the boys of the House of Hope. – a home for boys that have been rescued from living on the streets.
  • Dental projects that took place at The Treasure centre, Tubahumarize, and the House of Hope
  • A sports camp that reached out to street children, the boys at the House of Hope, and to a local community in Kigali

The team was joined by Rogers, a good friend of Hopethiopia. Rogers came from Uganda to participate in the activities of the team. We also were joined with Kiersti, Rilla, Derek, and Caleb, Canadians that have been travelling around Africa for a few months. Kiersti and Rilla will continue on the Uganda and then will end up in Ethiopia in mid December where they will stay for up to 6 months at our project site at Harbu Chulule.

Glenda, Hayley, and Bobby, will remain in Rwanda for a few more days to complete many of the necessary tasks required for an iNGO as well as continue on with a number of other projects that are on the go.

Ralph is back in Ethiopia and will be working with a variety of projects including a cataract surgery clinic that will take place at the Hopethiopia project site in Harbu Chulule..
